Its me isnt it? It must be. I must be the only person in New Zealand no the world that doesnt like them.
Who, you ask? Flight of the Conchords. Now dont get me wrong i dont hate them, i wont run out of the room or scream if someone mentions them, or change the channel if they come on tv. And im not jealous or anything cause why would i be jealous.
I just dont see the funny. Oh i see the funny, the show has its humouress moments but it only makes me smile or laugh at the dumbness. (the good type of dumbness)
I was all for flight of the conchords in the beggining, yay i say heres are new zealanders who have made it famous without depending on new zealand as a crutch to get famous. Only it turns out thats exactly what they are about.
I do not like the stilted, american trying to be english feel that i get from watching. And it seems like they write episodes around their songs. Which makes sense because they are a band. But to base entire episodes around silly little songs that tend to only be loosely related to the 'plot' of the show. Its like coming up with a punchline and then working back to the setup, thus resulting in stilted dialogue and overall awkwardness.
BUT THATS THE FUNNY! people would scream at me if i pointed this out. No, that is not funny, thats a half assed attempt at trying to create a plot around a song. Like High School musical. Yes i compared it to high school musical. Songs in musicals are meant to push the story forward, reveal things about the characters inner thoughts and desires. I have seen some of High School Musical 2 and they in fact do it much better, and then they fall back on bad habits.
Anyway, Fligh of the conchords is what im bitching about. Half the songs arent even that funny. David Bowie in space? What the hell? They have done some cool songs ill admit that but noone went this crazy over Gary that australian band that did essentially the same thing except build stupid plots around their silly songs.
So my biggest peeve with Flight of the Conchords is how everyone watches it on the internet, and then when it comes time to watch it on tv theyve already seen it and so sing along or say the jokes before they happen. Leaving me very pissed. Argh.
Then i get people like pam and renee saying I LOVE FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS! to me. I dont care!
I dont go up to people I LOVE BUFFY! and i especially dont open conversations with it. Am i the only considerate one these days?
I dont shove my likes down people throats. Oh, wait maybe i do... But still I do NOT while watching things ive seen before with people I do not start quoting things 5 seconds before the quote is actually said. Its very annoying.
And you people choose to watch what i offer, you dont have to watch it. So dont accuse me of shoving things down my throat. I think buffy/angel/firefly/dead like me/heroes is a good show and if you dont want to watch them then thats fine.
Anyway, so why do i watch flight of the conchords if it annoys me so much. Because I need to see what the big deal is, and so far it isnt that great. Red vs Blue is something i could see why people went crazy for. Snakes on a plane is something i can see why people went crazy for.
Flight of the conchords other than featuring new zealnders and silly songs is nothing spectacular. its just average. Which is a hell of a lot better than the content new zealanders used to produce. So hoorah.
My ranting may have contradicted me so to conclude ill say the defining statement. I do not find flight of the conchords SO hilarious. I think i may be the only one, i definitely am in my flat. 6/10
